Baby friendly stays in New Zealand

10 October 2017 | snap news by Patrick

Mild climate, spiceless food, activities aplenty and easy to get around, New Zealand is a great destination to bring your kids – especially the wee ones.

In fact, the don of travel guides, Lonely Planet, describes New Zealand as “a terrific place” to bring your offspring.

It says Aotearoa is: “Safe and affordable, with loads of playgrounds, kid-centric activities, a moderate climate and chilli-free cuisine.”

We couldn’t agree more. At Snap Rentals we know it can be hard to find the right places and spaces for you and your baby, so we have compiled a list of baby-friendly go-tos.

Put bub in the car, and hit the road to make some of your best family holiday memories yet.

Lake Taupo Resort, Taupo

Rent a comfortable motel unit in this North Island tourist mecca. Family suites can have multiple rooms with indoor and outdoor living areas — as well as extensive playgrounds and hire toys for the littlies. Best of all is Lusty’s Lagoon, the incredible geothermally heated pool with a swim up bar exclusively for the use of guests.

Waipoua Lodge, Northland

A shortish drive north of Auckland is the picturesque Kauri Coast. There, the luxury Waipoua Lodge ensures there is as much to do for kids as there is for adults – without disturbing other guests.

“We enjoy welcoming children to Waipoua Lodge and making their stay just as special as for their Mum and Dad,” says the website.

“There is so much to see on the Kauri Coast and at the lodge there are animals to feed, bushwalks to explore and bread that often is waiting for kneading.”

Family suites ensure babies can sleep uninterrupted, with plenty of room for the rest of the family to enjoy quiet time, too.

Camp Glenorchy, Queenstown

Opening in December 2017, this “light footprint” accommodation more than meets the benchmark for baby friendly getaways.

Camp Glenorchy, Queenstown

In the South Islands tourist hub that is the Southern Lakes, Camp Glenorchy is described by Family Accommodation NZ as: “Cosy, comfortable year-round cabins, bunkhouses and powered motorhome sites”.

Camp Glenorchy welcomes families of all ages and is the country’s first NetZero Energy accommodation and is just 40 minutes north of Queenstown, at the head of Lake Wakatipu.

Amenities include an onsite store so you’ll never be caught without the necessities for your wee ones.

Akaroa on the Beach, Canterbury

Just metres from the beach and a short stroll to the quaint Akaroa town centre, these self-contained units are the definition of tranquil.
