You probably know him best from ‘What we do in the shadows’; Cori Gonzalez-Macuer is a comedian, dad and more recently, a brand ambassador for Snap Rentals. We ask him a few quick questions to get to know the man behind the legend and what he’ll be up to this month.
“As much as I’m gonna miss my Honda Fit, I’m pretty stoked to be driving a car that has all 4 hubcaps in tact. Cheers @snaprentals for the hook up. Looking forward to not breaking down this summer.” ⠀ ⠀ Did you catch @corigram’s Snap Rentals IG takeover this past weekend? Tell us about your very first stand-up
My first gig was the Wellington Rookie Comp in 2003 as part of the Comedy Fest back then. I couldn’t stop throwing up beforehand. I opened with a joke about my girlfriend at the time. She was in the audience and ran out of the venue and wouldn’t talk to me for about a week afterwards. I ended up winning the competition though. So, every cloud….
Who are your comedy idols?
My dad, Flight of the Conchords, Jerry Seinfeld, Mitch Hedberg, Steve Martin, David Letterman
What is your latest tattoo?
Latest tattoo was done by one of my best mates Fabian at Queen St Tattoo Parlour. Was an early birthday present of a sailor jerry girl who looks exactly like my mum.
What are your best Dad jokes at the moment?
I’ve got a 2 year old who likes it when I pretend to fall over or talk about poos and wees and farts. Same goes for most of my South Island crowds.
What is your all-time favourite movie?
What are you working on at the moment?
7Days started back up a couple or weeks ago and I’m about to start a mini tour next week. I’ll be in Kerikeri, Tauranga, Wellington, Christchurch, Methven and Queenstown throughout March.
Off to Wellington to begin shooting on Paranormal Unit, the What We Do In The Shadows TV spinoff. I’m taking over this account for the day where I’ll share some of my day with you, including doing generic Wellington shit like starting my own craft beer brand, talking about how much I hate Aucklanders and bathing in the bucket fountain. #coritakeover
