FIVE PODCASTS TO INSPIRE CONSCIOUS AND SUSTAINABLE LIVING

On long car journeys about the country, what better way to pass the time than by listening to some enlightening and motivating podcasts. Inspiring you on how to eat, exercise, buy and live your life to generate your best possible self, these following podcasts are our pick for turning your long drive into an inspiring couple of hours.

Auckland yoga teacher, entrepreneur and all round nice guy, Dougit has made it his mission to speak to people of all backgrounds and talents who all are focused on making the change they want to see in the world. From painters, pizza makers, artists and musicians, Dougit interviews his guests to find out what makes them tick, making for an enlightening and entertaining podcast where more often than not, listeners are inspired to go start positive changes in their own lives too.

Ultra athlete, and renegade plant eater, Plant Power is a weekly podcast from one Auckland man who likens himself to Captain Planet, and after listening you will likely think the same! Bringing you inspirational and practical insights from a range of motivational guests on all things plant powered, this podcast is for those thinking of making a change to their diets, their exercise and their general well being. You’ll hear about nutrition, exercise, running, sustainability, mindfulness, food, spirituality, meditation and much more. As the podcaster himself says ‘Plant Power is a platform to inspire and give you the tools to live a more plant powered life and to be the best version of yourself.’

A US sensation, Joshua Fields Millburn & Ryan Nicodemus from The Minimalists help over 20 million people live meaningful lives with less through podcasts. Their growing popularity has as much to do with their down-to-earth, often hilarious podcast episodes, as well as their genuine desire to live more simple lives thanks to having less stuff. Just one episode will have you making a date to clear out your wardrobe, tackle that miscellaneous drawer in the kitchen, and finally tackle the unruly cupboard under the stairs.

Opting to live a little less in the fast lane, and more in the slow lane, The Slow Home Podcasts are created by Brooke McAlary and her family in Blue Mountains, Australia.

As McAlary herself explains ‘there is an ever-growing group of people who are saying no to life lived at 110%. They are opting to slow down, simplify, say no and focus on the things that are truly important. I’m one of them, and in The Slow Home Podcast I chat to others who have adopted a similar approach to life – slowing down, opting out, saying no.’ Tune in to learn what has made people change their pace, and what you can do to to increase your slow life moments.

Bruce Hopkins is taking his father and brother’s ashes back to Stewart Island, but he’s taking the long route. Walking the entire length of the Te Araroa trail that spans both North and South Islands, listen in as Hopkins delves into some deep and meaningful conversations with himself, and has heartwarming encounters with kind strangers along the way. As much about closure and ceremony as it is about hiking, The Long Way Home will have you wanting to pull on a pair of tramping boots and ditch all your social media devices ASAP.
