OUR FAVOURITE TWO WORDS: LONG WEEKEND.

Labour weekend is right around the corner, and so are some of the best spots to get away and enjoy three days of…whatever the hell you like!

The old three dayers in New Zealand are synonymous with road trips – big or small – to reach that holiday spot, and at Snap Rentals we know a thing or two about road trips (and the destinations you should visit).

So in true Snap Rental sharing spirits we have made this list of locations worth a nosey this Labour weekend (which is Monday 23rd October in case you’re wondering …)

THE FAR NORTH

There is no need to chase summer in the winterless north. Instead, soak up the warmer climes in some of the most untouched parts of New Zealand. Sprawling beaches, coastal walks and hidden bays, this is what road trips are made for.

COROMANDEL

With so many golden beaches to choose from, you can never go wrong with a jaunt to the ‘mandel. Dig your own hot pools at Hot Water Beach, start on your tan at Whangamata or escape to the more isolated Matarangi. Walk through the famous sandstone archway at Cathedral Bay or escape to the northern most point, Fletcher’s Bay. This list of the ten best beaches is a great starting point for your trip planning.

Pauanui, Coromandel.

RAGLAN

Escape the cities to this laid back surfer town with some of the coolest cafes and bars in the country. Get off the grid and onto the rugged coastline with a weekend away to Raglan. Affordable bach hire and attractions within walking distance make this coastal town the perfect seaside escape.

WAIRARAPA

If parking up at a winery is your idea of long weekend bliss, drive no further than Wairarapa. Close to Wellington and close-ish to the central North Island, this is a wine-lovers Eden. Enjoy organised winery tours or make your own way around the bounty – either way, we are sure your palate will be satisfied.

MARLBOROUGH

More vineyards, but more water make Marlborough a great destination to balance fun for the whole family. Parents and older generations can enjoy the wineries, and reward their well behaved littlies with boating, fishing and general beach time.

HANMER SPRINGS

Hanmer is home to family activities, whether it is mountain biking, jet boating, walking or relaxing in geothermal hot pools. A short drive from Nelson and Christchurch, you’ll find holiday homes to rent that fit you all in, as well as some haunts to enjoy a classic Kiwi pub meal in a family friendly environment. Enjoy a round of mini golf, a pedal on the group bikes or even a ride in a horse and cart.

TE ANAU

Stay in this Southland town for the lake scenery and close proximity to Milford Sound. A plethora of activities are available in Te Anau, and you won’t find the hectic crowds of Queenstown or Wanaka. Boat cruises through the otherworldly Milford Sound are affordable, and there are countless untouched lakeside bays to enjoy picnics and an early taste of summer.
